Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
The Mercato officially begins on February 5, with the Mercato Kickoff. On this date, the Market Value of all players is revealed, released players are officially announced, and Secured players in Germany, Italy, and Brazil are communicated.
The Mercato consists of four transfer windows, each accompanied by a Mercato Update Show:
- February 9th – Window 1
- February 10th – Window 2
- February 11th – Window 3
- February 12th – Window 4
The standard squad size is twelve (12) players. During the Mercato, teams may temporarily register more or fewer players while completing transfers and registrations.
Once the Mercato closes and the final window ends, teams will have 48 hours to adjust their roster and reduce it to the maximum allowed size.
Yes. The number of operations a team can complete is limited in each transfer window. As a result, teams must be strategic when deciding which moves to execute, when to act, and how to prioritize their squad needs throughout the Mercato.
Yes. The Mercato is international in nature, allowing transfers between leagues under global transfer rules. However, each league may apply specific local regulations and particularities within its own Mercato process.
No. A player can only be acquired by paying the Market Value if they are in Available status and not in Secured or Locked status.
A Release Clause allows a club to automatically acquire a player by paying their Market Value, without negotiating with the club of origin.
A Transfer requires a prior agreement between the involved clubs and is completed for a value different from the Market Value. In both cases, player approval is required when the new contractual conditions do not improve the player's current salary by at least 50%.
When a team exercises its Right of First Refusal (ROFR), it matches an external offer and retains the player. The player automatically moves to Locked status and can no longer be acquired by paying the Market Value.
In global transfers, Player Decision means the player has the final say on whether to accept or reject a transfer to a foreign club, even when a valid offer exists. This criterion also applies to any negotiation in which the player's contractual conditions are not improved by at least 50%.
A Free Agent does not belong to any club. For this reason, their Market Value appears as Free, reflecting the absence of club ownership over the player.
All offers are reviewed by the Competition Department, which will approve them if all required conditions are met or reject them otherwise.
